Depois de uma vez ter perguntado numa loja em Faro por "
fazenda às bolas" não me livro da fama de fazer preguntas difíceis. Confesso que foi um pouco por brincadeira, mas nunca mais ninguém se esqueceu da história.
Depois disso, de cada vez que lá entro para colocar uma questão, atrás do balcão está sempre um olhar desconfiado. Acreditem que não pergunto por nada que não exista. Até admito que não tenham certos artigos porque não são vendáveis em quantidades que justifiquem tê-los, mas dizerem-me que os desconhecem ou que os mesmos não existem já considero abusivo - falta de curiosidade, ausência de interesse e a visita de uns comerciais com catálogos do século passado.
Na lista de questões/produtos desconhecidos, logo inexistentes estão:
- a tal fazenda de bolas (se existe no pronto-a-vestir, poderia haver em peça, não?)

dedais de cabedal ou outro material sem ser o metal

linha para
quilting ("o que é isso?" ouvi do outro lado da linha quando a minha mãe fez o pedido numa conhecida retrosaria de Lisboa)

entretela x ou y (acreditem!!! comprar entretela nesta cidade é uma verdadeira aventura...)
Felizmente existe a internet e as lojas online!
Once I asked for a polkadotted tweed in a very traditional fabric shop in Faro and since then I'm known as "the girl who asks difficult questions". I admit it was kind of a joke - as I knew the answer would be "no", but it is still in everybody's mind.
After that day, everytime I go there and have questions to ask, all the ladies look at me kind of thinking "what is she up to this time!!!", but honnestly I never ask for things that do not exist. I understand that they don't carry stock of a lot of things because they don't sell it enough, but telling me that they have never heard of such thing, or that it does not exist...well, that is too much for me! - lack of interest and curiosity and suppliers who carry catalogues from the last century.
In this (already) enormous list of unknown/unexisting items I can count:
- (the famous) polkadoted tweed
- leather (or other "soft" material) thimbles
-quilting thread ("what in the world is that?" could I hear over the phone when my mother was asking for it at a well known haberdashery in Lisbon)
- interfacing (believe me, it is a hell of an adventure trying to buy interfacing in Faro!)
Fortunatelly there's the internet and online shops.
